Breathwork group class with Rowena Hunt
“In order to tackle the mind you must tackle the breath.” Sri OP Tiwarijii, Breath Master
Have you noticed that your breath changes when you are stressed or excited, tired or angry? In this 60 minute weekly class we will reverse-engineer this physiological truth, initially guiding the breath to show the body and mind the pathway to deep rest. You will be restored and re-energised, able to find better focus and experience deeper sleep.
Then, as you progress as a weekly student with Rowena, she will slowly guide your body to undertake longer, slower breaths and eventually controlled, safe, progressive holding of the breath. We never hyperventilate and this is not modern-day ‘breathwork’, but ancient pranayama; the art of extension and holding of the breath, of the ‘life force’, learning to manage inner pressure, in order to allow cellular repair, resilience and increased overall health. And, for those of you with a spiritual inclination, pranayama offers a pathway to deeply access elements of Soul, of the unchanging essence of Self.
Rowena looks forward to guiding you towards peace for your body and mind as you move towards peak wellbeing, deeper awareness and a longer health-span.
Fun facts:
New research from Emory University by Paul Dallaghan and Elissa Epel shows that sincere breath practice increases longevity. The study demonstrated a link between telomere length, which strongly indicates longevity, and sincere pranayama.
Famous neuroscientist Jack feldman states that slowing the breath reduces fear and anxiety. He demonstrated a significant reduction in fear response in mice after 30 days of slow breathing. He states: “breathing affects emotions, cognitive state, all sorts of function. I am a great believer in the power of breathwork to have positive effects on many aspects of physical function.”
