Rolfing

Rolfing

Rolfing is a method of aligning the body and improving posture by manipulation of the body’s connective tissue system, particularly the myofascial system. Steven feels for imbalances in tissue texture, quality and temperature to identify areas of imbalance, fascia layers that adhere to one another or muscles that have been pulled out of position by strain or injury. Fascia can thicken as a result of injury or poor postural habits causing compensatory imbalances throughout the body. Rolfing works to free restricted fascia and thereby restore previously impaired muscle function.

Research has demonstrated that Rolfing creates a more efficient use of the muscles, allows the body to conserve energy and creates more economical and refined patterns of movement. Improvements include disappearance of chronic pain and also bring lasting structural changes combined with increased sense of body awareness, control and higher wellness.

StretchRelease

StretchRelease is a movement method based on a specific sequence of flowing, circular motions, performed while seated, lying down or standing, which gently unwind and lengthen the body.

StretchRelease is designed to open the body safely and within the student’s comfort zone. Anyone can benefit from StretchRelease and it is ideal for dancers, singers, musicians, executives subject to high work stress, people recovering from injury, sports enthusiasts, personal trainers and yoga students. Stress, injury, trauma and misaligned posture all have negative impact on the body which can become clamped with compression, restricting blood flow and the release of toxins. In a class, you will learn to let go of tension and breathe fully and efficiently. Classes are structured to take the student through three levels of learning and exploration.

Steven Bremner

Steven was a soloist and principal dancer for over 18 years with such notable companies as Le Grand Ballet Canadien in Montreal, The Hong Kong Ballet and The National Ballet of Canada in Toronto.

In 1997, Steven was accepted into the renowned Rolf Institute for Structural Integration, an institute that specializes in myofascial release techniques designed to open, release and reawaken the entire body creating a balanced, harmonious and resonant system. He is a certified Rolfer for structural integration and he offers individual, private sessions at our centre.

In addition, Steven teaches StretchRelease movement therapy, which he developed over the years. This new system enables his clients to explore their body through gentle, free-flowing and natural movements designed to release negative patterns and imbalances and bring the body to a more integrated and balanced whole. A frequent additional benefit of this “moving meditation” is an enhanced sense of peace on mental, emotional and psychological levels.

Steven is also a certified practitioner of Touch for Health Kinesiology, an accurate tool for assessing imbalances in all of the body's various systems. Using the body's bio-feedback system through gentle testing of various muscles, Steven will access information on the state and health of the body and make corrections using multiple techniques from both eastern and western therapies.

His work integrates energy healing, kinesiology, movement therapy and bodywork / Rolfing. Alongside his one to one Rolfing sessions and his StretchRelease classes, Steven offers workshops and classes in Energy Balancing Technique and Somatic Therapy bodywork.
